Scrap Crossing — Pattern + Free Video Workshop

If your scrap bin feels overwhelming…
this is your fresh-start project for the new year.

Scrap Crossing is a scrap-friendly quilt that looks intentional, balanced, and thoughtfully designed — not busy or chaotic. It’s the kind of quilt that uses what you already have, while still giving you a polished, confident finish.

How Scrap Crossing Works

Step 1: Pre-order the pattern

Enter your email below and continue to checkout.

👉 As soon as you complete your order, you’ll receive an email with exclusive prep materials to help you:

  • Organize your scraps

  • Make fabric decisions with confidence

  • Get fully prepared before the workshop begins

(Prep materials are emailed only to those who order.)

Step 2: Workshop + pattern access begins

🗓 Monday, January 19

On January 19, you’ll receive access to:

  • The Scrap Crossing written pattern

  • A recorded video workshop inside your Joyful and Merry Quilting library

The workshop is not live, so you can watch — and rewatch — anytime as you work through your quilt.

This is Beginner Friendly (and NOT Foundation Piecing)

This project uses simple, traditional piecing — no paper piecing, no templates, and no special tools.

✔ Confident beginner friendly
✔ Standard ¼" seam allowance
✔ Clear, step-by-step instruction

And if you don’t have a large scrap stash (or would rather keep things simple), pre-cuts work beautifully for this project too.

What You'll Learn in the Scrap Crossing Workshop

This is more than a pattern — it’s a skill-building project designed to help you quilt with confidence.

Scrapbusting that looks cohesive

  • How to turn scraps into a quilt that feels planned, not random

  • Why more variation and contrast actually improves the final design

A block that looks complex — but isn’t

  • How to build a nine-patch-based block that’s approachable and forgiving

  • Why working with slightly oversized pieces improves accuracy

  • How trimming keeps everything square and centered

The “big teaching moment”: narrow strip alignment

  • How to align thin cross strips the same way you would sashing

  • A simple marking technique that removes guesswork

  • How to keep narrow strips straight, centered, and visually balanced

  • A transferable skill you’ll use in future quilts

On-point layouts without fear

  • How to work with an on-point layout confidently

  • How to cut setting triangles intentionally so:

    • Outside edges stay on straight grain

    • You avoid stretchy bias edges before borders are added

Fabric Flexibility

Use what you have — without sacrificing the final look.

  • Scrap squares or pre-cuts for the blocks

  • Background options:

    • Yardage for a calm, consistent look

    • OR background scraps, with guidance on keeping each block consistent

Finished Quilt Details

  • On-point quilt with a scrappy outer border

  • Approximate finished size: 71.5" x 85.5" (with a 3" finished outer border)

  • A design that:

    • Highlights scraps without overwhelming the eye

    • Looks striking from across the room and beautiful up close
